SKINPEN PRECISION MICRONEEDLING AFTERCARE

Your guide to healing safely and getting the most from your treatment.

SkinPen Precision creates controlled microchannels within the skin to initiate a natural wound-healing and collagen-remodelling response.

For the first several days following treatment, your skin barrier is temporarily more vulnerable and may be more sensitive than usual.

Following your aftercare carefully is an important part of supporting recovery and protecting your treatment outcome.

Typical visible downtime: approximately 2–5 days.

Individual recovery varies depending on treatment depth, treatment area and your skin's response.

IMMEDIATELY AFTER TREATMENT

Your skin may appear and feel similar to a moderate sunburn.

It is normal to experience:

• Redness and flushing
• Warmth or heat
• Mild swelling
• Tightness
• Tenderness or sensitivity
• Mild stinging
• Pinpoint redness
• A dry or rough feeling over the following days

Redness is generally most noticeable immediately following treatment and should progressively reduce.

FIRST 24 HOURS

Treat your skin very gently.

Avoid touching your face unnecessarily and always wash your hands before applying any recommended post-treatment product.

CAN I WASH MY FACE?

Follow the cleansing instructions given by your practitioner.

If you have been instructed to wait before cleansing, do not wash the treated area until that timeframe has passed.

When you resume cleansing:

• Use cool to lukewarm water
• Use a gentle cleanser only
• Wash with clean hands
• Do not use cleansing brushes or devices
• Do not scrub the skin
• Pat dry gently with a clean towel

Avoid very hot water.

SKINCARE

During the initial recovery period, use only the gentle or post-procedure skincare recommended by your practitioner.

Do not immediately return to your complete normal skincare routine.

The priority during the first few days is barrier recovery, hydration and protection.

MAKEUP

Avoid makeup for at least the first 24 hours following treatment and longer if the skin remains significantly red, irritated or compromised.

When you resume makeup, ensure brushes, sponges and applicators are clean.

If your skin still feels raw or highly sensitive, wait longer.

EXERCISE

Avoid strenuous exercise and excessive sweating for approximately 24–48 hours.

Sweat, heat and friction can increase irritation while the skin barrier is recovering.

This includes:

• Gym workouts
• Running
• Hot yoga
• Intense cardio
• Activities causing significant facial sweating

Light activity that does not cause significant heat or sweating is generally preferable during the initial recovery period.

HEAT & WATER EXPOSURE

For approximately 48 hours, avoid:

• Saunas
• Steam rooms
• Spa baths
• Very hot showers
• Swimming pools
• Chlorinated water
• Ocean swimming

Avoid excessive heat while redness and inflammation remain present.

SUN EXPOSURE

Your skin is particularly vulnerable following microneedling.

Avoid unnecessary direct sun exposure and do not intentionally tan the treated area.

Use broad-spectrum SPF 50+ once appropriate for your recovering skin and reapply according to product directions and exposure.

Physical sun protection such as a hat and shade is strongly recommended.

Consistent sun protection is particularly important to reduce the risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation.

DAYS 2–3

Redness should progressively begin to settle.

During this stage, you may notice:

• Tightness
• Dryness
• Mild sensitivity
• Rough or sandpaper-like texture
• Mild flaking
• Temporary increased sensitivity to skincare

These can occur as the skin barrier recovers.

Continue gentle cleansing, hydration and sun protection.

Do not exfoliate the dryness or rough texture.

DAYS 3–5

Most clients notice that their skin is increasingly returning to its normal appearance.

Mild dryness, tightness or flaking may remain.

Allow any flaking to shed naturally.

Do not attempt to speed up the process with scrubs, exfoliating acids, cleansing brushes or picking.

ACTIVE SKINCARE

Temporarily discontinue potentially irritating active ingredients following SkinPen.

This includes:

• Retinol and prescription retinoids
• AHAs such as glycolic or lactic acid
• BHAs / salicylic acid
• Exfoliating toners and pads
• Benzoyl peroxide
• Physical scrubs
• Strong or acidic vitamin C formulations
• Other potentially irritating corrective products

As a general guide, these are usually withheld for approximately 5–7 days and should only be reintroduced once the skin barrier has recovered and there is no significant redness, sensitivity or peeling.

If your practitioner has given you a different timeframe, follow those instructions.

Introduce active products gradually rather than restarting everything on the same night.

WHAT SHOULD I USE?

Keep your routine simple.

Your practitioner may recommend:

Gentle cleanser
To cleanse without unnecessarily stripping or irritating the recovering skin.

Hydrating / barrier-supportive product
To support comfort and barrier recovery.

SPF 50+
For ongoing protection from UV exposure once appropriate following treatment.

Avoid introducing new skincare products during the recovery period unless they have been recommended.

WHAT NOT TO DO

During recovery:

• Do not pick or scratch the skin
• Do not manually peel flaking skin
• Do not exfoliate
• Do not use facial scrubs
• Do not use cleansing brushes
• Do not wax the treated area
• Do not use depilatory creams on treated skin
• Do not intentionally tan
• Do not use at-home dermarollers or microneedling devices
• Do not undergo another aggressive skin treatment before the skin has recovered

OTHER FACIAL & SKIN TREATMENTS

Avoid additional procedures until your skin has adequately healed.

This may include:

• Chemical peels
• Laser treatments
• RF microneedling
• Fractional resurfacing
• Dermaplaning
• Waxing
• Other microneedling procedures

The appropriate interval depends on the treatment you are planning next.

If you are unsure, contact VÉU before booking another procedure.

WHEN WILL MY SKIN LOOK NORMAL AGAIN?

For most clients, the most visible redness settles within the first 24–72 hours.

Dryness, tightness or mild flaking may continue for approximately 3–5 days.

Following deeper or more intensive microneedling, visible recovery may occasionally take longer.

Your skin does not need to peel for the treatment to have worked.

WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?

SkinPen works by initiating a biological remodelling process, so the final result is not expected immediately after treatment.

Once the initial inflammation has settled, the skin may begin to appear smoother and more refined.

Collagen and elastin remodelling continue over the following weeks and months.

When treating acne scarring or more significant textural concerns, improvement is generally progressive and a course of treatments may be recommended.

WHAT IS NORMAL — AND WHAT ISN'T?

EXPECTED

Redness, warmth, mild swelling, tightness, dryness, sensitivity and light flaking can all occur following microneedling.

These reactions should generally improve rather than progressively worsen.

CONTACT VÉU IF YOU EXPERIENCE

• Increasing pain rather than improving tenderness
• Significant or rapidly increasing swelling
• Blistering
• Extensive weeping or discharge
• Increasing redness or heat after the expected initial inflammatory period
• Signs of infection
• A significant or worsening rash
• An unexpected pigmentation change
• Any reaction that concerns you

If you're unsure whether your skin response is normal, please contact us and provide clear photographs in natural lighting, along with the date your treatment was performed.

For severe symptoms or a medical emergency, seek urgent medical attention.

YOUR SKIN IS HEALING

Microneedling intentionally initiates a controlled wound-healing response.

For the next several days, less is more.

Keep your skin clean, hydrated and protected. Avoid unnecessary actives, heat and exfoliation, and allow the barrier to recover naturally.

Do not pick. Do not rush the healing process. Protect your skin from the sun.

If you have any concerns during your recovery, contact VÉU.
