Pico Laser is an advanced laser treatment designed to target unwanted pigmentation, uneven skin tone and overall skin clarity using ultra-short pulses of laser energy.

Unlike traditional resurfacing treatments that rely primarily on controlled thermal injury, picosecond technology delivers energy in extremely short pulses, creating a predominantly photoacoustic effect within the targeted pigment.

This allows pigment particles to be fragmented into smaller particles that can then be progressively cleared through the body's natural processes, while limiting unnecessary thermal exposure to surrounding tissue.

At VÉU, Pico treatments are individually selected according to your skin type, pigmentation, treatment history and clinical indication.

WHAT CAN PICO LASER TREAT?

Depending on clinical assessment and the wavelength or treatment mode selected, Pico Laser may be used for:

• Sun-induced pigmentation
• Freckles and lentigines
• Uneven skin tone
• Selected epidermal and dermal pigmentation
• Post-inflammatory pigmentation, where appropriate
• Dull or uneven-looking skin
• Overall skin clarity and rejuvenation
• Selected tattoo pigments

Not all pigmentation should be treated with laser. Accurate assessment of the pigmentation type is important before treatment, particularly in clients prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

HOW DOES PICO LASER WORK?

Pico Laser delivers extremely short pulses of energy measured in picoseconds — trillionths of a second.

The selected wavelength is absorbed by targeted pigment within the skin. The rapid delivery of energy creates a photomechanical or photoacoustic effect that fragments pigment while minimising prolonged heat exposure to the surrounding tissue.

Over time, the fragmented pigment is gradually processed and cleared by the body.

Treatment parameters are selected according to the depth and type of pigment, skin phototype and desired clinical endpoint.

PIGMENT CORRECTION

Pigmentation is not one single condition.

It can occur at different depths within the skin and may be influenced by sun exposure, inflammation, hormones, genetics and previous skin trauma.

For this reason, VÉU does not use one standard laser protocol for every pigmentation concern.

Some pigment responds extremely well to laser treatment, while other forms require a more cautious approach or may be better managed using alternative modalities and topical therapies.

Your skin will be assessed before treatment to determine whether Pico Laser is appropriate.

CARBON LASER OPTION

For clients wanting a lighter treatment focused on congestion, oiliness, pores and overall skin clarity, a Carbon Laser treatment may also be selected.

A specialised carbon solution is applied to the skin before laser energy is passed across the treatment area.

The treatment creates a controlled interaction between the laser and carbon at the skin's surface, providing a gentle exfoliating and cleansing effect.

Carbon Laser may be suitable for clients concerned with:

• Congested skin
• Excess oil
• Visible pores
• Dull or rough skin texture
• Blackheads and surface congestion
• General skin maintenance
• Overall brightness and clarity

Carbon Laser is generally a lower-downtime option than more intensive resurfacing procedures and can be incorporated into an ongoing clinical skin-maintenance plan.

PICO OR CARBON — WHICH DO I BOOK?

You don't need to decide which laser protocol your skin requires.

Your treatment will be selected according to your presenting concern and clinical assessment.

Pico Laser is generally selected when the primary target is pigmentation, uneven tone or more specific pigment correction.

Carbon Laser is generally selected when the focus is congestion, oiliness, pores and overall skin clarity.

In some treatment plans, different laser protocols may be used strategically over time depending on how the skin responds.

WHAT DOES PICO LASER FEEL LIKE?

During Pico treatment, clients commonly describe a rapid snapping or prickling sensation as the laser pulses are delivered.

Comfort varies depending on the treatment area, indication and settings required.

Carbon Laser is generally experienced as a lighter treatment, with warmth and mild snapping sensations during the laser passes.

DOWNTIME & RECOVERY

Downtime varies considerably depending on what is being treated and the intensity of treatment.

Pico Laser

For lighter rejuvenation treatments, there may be little to no visible downtime.

When treating individual pigmented lesions, clients may experience:

First 24–48 hours:
Mild redness, warmth or sensitivity.

Days 2–7:
Treated pigmentation may temporarily become darker or more noticeable before gradually lightening or shedding. Mild dryness or superficial crusting may occur depending on the treatment endpoint.

Clients should not pick, scratch or prematurely remove treated areas.

Carbon Laser

Carbon Laser generally involves minimal downtime.

Mild redness, warmth or temporary sensitivity may occur immediately after treatment and typically settles within several hours to approximately 24 hours.

Individual responses vary.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

This depends entirely on the indication.

Some superficial pigmented lesions may respond noticeably following a small number of treatments, while more complex or deeper pigmentation may require a progressive treatment plan.

Pigmentation can also recur, particularly when influenced by UV exposure, hormones or inflammation, so ongoing skin management and sun protection remain important.

Carbon Laser may be performed as an individual treatment or periodically as part of a skin-maintenance program.

AFTERCARE

Following laser treatment, the skin should be treated gently while it recovers.

Clients will receive individualised aftercare instructions, which may include temporary modification of active skincare ingredients and avoidance of excessive heat, exfoliation and other potentially irritating treatments.

Consistent broad-spectrum SPF and sun avoidance are particularly important following pigment-targeting laser procedures.
