COSMELAN® PEEL AFTERCARE
Your guide to recovery and your Cosmelan® homecare program.
Cosmelan® is a professional depigmentation program designed to target the appearance of pigmentation and help regulate ongoing pigment formation.
The treatment does not finish when your Cosmelan® 1 mask is removed.
Your homecare — particularly consistent use of Cosmelan® 2 and strict daily sun protection — is an essential part of your treatment program and results.
REMOVING YOUR COSMELAN® 1 MASK
At the time advised by your practitioner, gently remove the entire Cosmelan® 1 mask using plenty of lukewarm water.
Do not scrub or exfoliate the skin while removing the mask.
IMPORTANT
Avoid getting the product into your eyes.
After removing the mask, avoid:
• Direct sun exposure
• Excessive heat
• Steam rooms and saunas
• Strenuous exercise if the skin remains hot or irritated
• Harsh or active skincare products
• Scrubs and exfoliation
WHAT TO EXPECT
Following Cosmelan®, it is normal for the skin to undergo an inflammatory and peeling response.
FIRST 24–48 HOURS
You may experience:
• Redness
• Warmth or a burning sensation
• Tingling
• Tightness
• Skin sensitivity
DAYS 3–7
You may experience:
• Peeling or flaking
• Dryness
• Tightness
• Mild itching
• Continued sensitivity
The amount of peeling varies between individuals.
More peeling does not mean a better result, and minimal peeling does not mean your treatment has not worked.
Never pick, pull or manually exfoliate peeling skin.
YOUR FIRST 7 DAYS
Immediately after washing off your Cosmelan® 1 mask, the priority is to keep the skin calm, hydrated and protected.
MORNING
1. Water
Gently rinse the skin with lukewarm water.
2. Melan Recovery
Apply gently to support hydration, comfort and the skin barrier.
3. Mesoprotech® SPF 50+
Apply generously and protect the skin from direct sun exposure.
EVENING
1. Gentle cleanser
Cleanse gently using lukewarm water.
2. Melan Recovery
Apply to clean skin.
Melan Recovery may also be reapplied throughout the day whenever the skin feels dry, tight, itchy, sensitive or uncomfortable.
DURING THE FIRST 7 DAYS, AVOID:
• Retinol / retinoids
• Vitamin A products
• AHAs
• BHAs
• Glycolic, lactic or salicylic acid
• Exfoliating toners or pads
• Physical scrubs
• At-home peels
• Strong active serums
• Waxing
• Heat-based treatments
• Saunas and steam rooms
• Direct or prolonged sun exposure
Do not exfoliate peeling skin. Allow it to shed naturally.
STARTING YOUR COSMELAN® HOMECARE
WHEN DO I START COSMELAN® 2?
Begin Cosmelan® 2 7 days after removing your Cosmelan® 1 mask, unless your practitioner has instructed you differently.
Your skin should be sufficiently settled before commencing the next phase.
If your skin remains significantly irritated, raw, swollen or uncomfortable at Day 7, contact VÉU before starting Cosmelan® 2.
STEP 1 — COSMELAN® 2
Apply a hazelnut-sized amount to clean, dry skin morning and night, according to the protocol prescribed by your practitioner.
During the initial weeks you may experience:
• Mild burning or warmth
• Tingling
• Itching
• Redness
• Dryness
• Peeling
Some treatment response can be expected; however, severe or progressively worsening irritation should not simply be pushed through.
Contact VÉU if your reaction becomes difficult to tolerate.
Wash your hands after application and avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes.
STEP 2 — MELAN RECOVERY
After applying Cosmelan® 2, apply Melan Recovery over the top morning and night.
Melan Recovery is designed to soothe, hydrate and support the skin barrier throughout the depigmentation program.
You may also reapply it during the day whenever your skin feels:
• Dry
• Tight
• Sensitive
• Irritated
• Uncomfortable
Continue using Melan Recovery for as long as required to maintain skin comfort and barrier support.
STEP 3 — MESOPROTECH® SPF 50+
Every morning, apply your Mesoprotech® Melan 130 SPF after Melan Recovery.
Sun protection is a critical part of your pigmentation treatment.
Apply generously and reapply approximately every 2 hours during sustained outdoor exposure, as well as after swimming, sweating or towel drying.
Where possible:
• Wear a hat
• Seek shade
• Avoid prolonged direct sunlight
• Do not intentionally tan
Daily photoprotection should continue after your Cosmelan® program has finished to help maintain your results and minimise pigmentation recurrence.
WHEN CAN I USE MY NORMAL SKINCARE AGAIN?
This is important.
Your normal skincare should not all be restarted at once after the first seven days.
Cosmelan® 2 is already an intensive corrective treatment, so adding multiple active products can unnecessarily increase irritation and compromise your skin barrier.
DAYS 1–7
Do not use your normal active skincare.
Follow your recovery routine only:
Morning:
Water → Melan Recovery → SPF 50+
Evening:
Gentle Cleanser → Melan Recovery
FROM DAY 7 ONWARDS
Once your skin has settled sufficiently and you commence Cosmelan® 2, you may use simple, non-active skincarealongside your prescribed Cosmelan routine if needed.
Suitable products may include:
• Gentle cleanser
• Simple hydrating serum
• Barrier-supportive moisturiser
• Melan Recovery
• SPF 50+
However, keep your routine simple.
DO NOT INDEPENDENTLY REINTRODUCE:
• Retinol or prescription retinoids
• AHAs / BHAs
• Glycolic acid
• Lactic acid
• Salicylic acid
• Exfoliating pads
• Physical scrubs
• At-home chemical peels
• Strong vitamin C formulations
• Additional pigment-correcting acids or strong brightening treatments
These should only be reintroduced if and when advised by your practitioner.
WHAT ABOUT MY SKINCARE DURING THE 3-MONTH COSMELAN® PROGRAM?
For the corrective phase of your treatment, think of Cosmelan® 2 as your primary active skincare treatment.
You do not need to layer multiple corrective products around it.
For most clients, the safest approach is:
MORNING
Gentle cleanse/rinse
→ Cosmelan® 2
→ Melan Recovery
→ Mesoprotech® SPF 50+
EVENING
Gentle cleanse
→ Cosmelan® 2
→ Melan Recovery
Simple hydrating or barrier-supportive products may be incorporated where appropriate.
Retinoids, exfoliating acids and other strong corrective products should remain paused unless VÉU specifically advises you to introduce them.
WHEN CAN I FULLY RETURN TO MY PREVIOUS SKINCARE ROUTINE?
Once you have completed your prescribed approximately 3-month Cosmelan® 2 corrective program, your skin and pigmentation can be reassessed.
At this stage, VÉU can determine which of your previous active products should be reintroduced and which products are most appropriate for long-term pigmentation maintenance.
Products such as:
• Retinoids
• Vitamin C
• AHAs/BHAs
• Pigmentation serums
• Exfoliating products
may then be gradually reintroduced where appropriate.
Do not restart every active product simultaneously.
For clients with melasma or recurrent pigmentation, your long-term skincare plan may remain specifically focused on pigment control and strict photoprotection.
DURING THE FIRST FEW WEEKS
Approximately 2–3 weeks into your program, some clients experience a more noticeable treatment response.
You may notice:
• Increased peeling
• Dryness and tightness
• Redness
• Burning or sensitivity
• Temporary darkening or “shadowing” of pigmentation
Some fluctuation can occur during a depigmentation program.
However, severe burning, significant swelling, blistering, weeping or progressively worsening inflammation is not something you should simply tolerate.
Contact VÉU if you are concerned.
COSMELAN® 2 — YOUR 3-MONTH CORRECTIVE PHASE
Cosmelan® 2 is the primary home depigmenting treatment and is an essential part of helping manage pigmentation following your professional treatment.
A minimum of approximately 3 months of consistent use is recommended within your prescribed VÉU treatment program.
Depending on your skin, pigmentation and response, your practitioner may recommend adjusting application frequency or continuing a maintenance strategy beyond this period.
DO NOT:
• Stop because your pigmentation looks better
• Apply more product to create more peeling
• Increase frequency without instruction
• Add other strong pigment treatments yourself
• Push through severe irritation without contacting VÉU
Consistency is more important than aggressive peeling.
MELAN RECOVERY
Melan Recovery helps soothe, hydrate and support the skin barrier throughout your Cosmelan® program.
Use morning and evening after Cosmelan® 2.
Reapply during the day whenever your skin feels dry, tight, sensitive or uncomfortable.
Continue for as long as required to maintain a comfortable, healthy skin barrier.
SUN PROTECTION
Daily sun protection is non-negotiable throughout your Cosmelan® journey and beyond.
Apply SPF 50+ every morning.
Reapply appropriately during outdoor exposure.
Remember that pigmentation — particularly melasma — can recur.
Consistent photoprotection is one of the most important long-term measures for maintaining your result.
MAKEUP
During the initial recovery period, avoid makeup if your skin is significantly red, raw, uncomfortable or actively peeling.
Once the skin surface is intact and comfortable, makeup can generally be gradually resumed.
Use clean brushes and applicators and avoid aggressive rubbing when removing makeup.
DO NOT PICK OR PEEL YOUR SKIN
Allow peeling and flaking to shed naturally.
Do not:
• Pick
• Scratch
• Peel
• Scrub
• Use exfoliating brushes
• Use exfoliating pads to remove flakes
Prematurely removing peeling skin can increase inflammation and potentially contribute to post-inflammatory pigmentation.
WHEN SHOULD I CONTACT VÉU?
Contact VÉU if you experience:
• Severe or increasing pain
• Significant or rapidly increasing swelling
• Blistering
• Extensive weeping
• Pus or unusual discharge
• Significant crusting
• Severe or progressively worsening inflammation
• A significant rash
• Signs of infection
• Pigmentation changes that concern you
• Any reaction you are unsure about
When contacting us, please send clear photographs in natural lighting and tell us where you are within your Cosmelan® program.
For severe symptoms or a medical emergency, seek urgent medical attention.
RUNNING OUT OF YOUR PRODUCTS
If your Melan Recovery or SPF runs out before completing your Cosmelan® treatment cycle, this does not necessarily mean you need to purchase the entire system again.
Individual products can be replaced where required.
If you remain dry or sensitive, continued barrier support may be recommended.
You will continue to require appropriate daily SPF 50+ regardless of whether your original Mesoprotech® product has finished.
If you're unsure which product you need, contact VÉU before substituting products yourself.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER
Cosmelan® does not finish when the mask comes off.
Your professional treatment begins the process.
Your prescribed Cosmelan® 2 homecare continues the corrective phase for approximately 3 months.
During this period:
Use Cosmelan® 2 consistently.
Keep the rest of your routine simple.
Support your skin barrier.
Wear SPF 50+ every day.
Do not pick peeling skin.
Do not introduce strong active skincare without approval.
If you're ever unsure whether a skincare product is appropriate while you're using Cosmelan® 2, contact VÉU before adding it to your routine.
